The Filter (HEPA)

HEPA 14 is the gold standard when it comes to the type of filter and many devices are equipped with HEPA 14 with a filtration performance of 0.3 microns. But what about the amount of HEPA filter? This vital piece of information is often not shared. Are you aware of the consequences If your air purifier only comes with a small amount of HEPA filter?

Standard air purifier filter

HEPA filters come in all shapes and sizes but often in the form of a frame filter (see right). Sadly, there is usually less than 3 square metres of HEPA material.

It is important to remember that the smaller the amount of filter material, the quicker it becomes clogged or saturated requiring replacement.

As a small filter becomes clogged quicker, one of the side effects is the increase in sound level. Think about it, if you continue to push the same amount of air through fewer openings, the speed of the forced air has to increase and faster air means HIGHER SOUND!

AIRDIATE 6 filter

The filter in the large version of the AIRDIATE 6 AIR STERILISER boasts an incredible 22.5 square metres of HEPA material. This brings a lot of unique benefits such as ultra quiet sound levels and up to 10x fewer filter changes. Depending on environment, we estimate a filter could last up to 2 years.

In addition to the quantity of material, the AIRDIATE 6 HEPA 14 filter is superior than other standard HEPA 14 filters because it catches much smaller (0.16 microns) particles instead of the usual 0.3 microns.

This is vitally important when you consider that the smallest COVID particle is 0.18 microns in size.
